2. I don't know about WWII but why would you WANT the GDP to go up? If the prices are higher that means shit is harder to get. Plus if GDP is the total cost of all market goods then it's a useless figure because that could be bad or good. For example food and water could become jacked up in price while stupid stuff that no one needs like iPhones is much lower so when you put them together the GDP goes up relative to how it might have been since the last calculation.

7. +StunnedByStupidity You fail to mention that the 'post-war boom' also coincided with nearly 2 million Americans coming home from war and getting jobs. That's a hell of an economic boost in itself but depressions do not take 10+ years to come out of on their own - the market imposes it's own form of austerity through 'market correction' - higher prices and lower wages(wherever there is less resistance). They reach their lowest point immediately and slowly make their way back up to normal living standards. Spending money does not necessarily create prosperity because it doesn't necessarily create anything of value and the US no longer produces things on a scale that would allow for growth(evidenced by our massive trade deficit). Instead of slow growth, we've get slow recession through inflation in the form of government-inflated bubbles. And because the government never allows deflation to happen, we never see the 'good side' of inflation - the part that benefits the lower end of the economic ladder, when prices fall. Prices are never allowed to fall by government mandate so the only place they can go is up which leads to overinvestment in some areas and underinvestment in others which ultimately triggers both natural bubbles and government-funded investment bubbles, such as what we seen in 2008 and what's building up in the DOW/tuition market.
   The government does not and will not let the market work. The market is the driving force of capitalism. Therefore, this is not Capitalism.
8. Sorry, but the economy didn't wander off independently of what happened in the war.
   The war wasn't the prosperity, it was the time when the corpse of the economy was revived by massive war time production, leading to a buildup of capacity and resources that were turned to the private economy after the war. This laid the foundations for the surge in economic activity after the war.
   People and industry had resources after the war that they didn't have before the war. Those resources didn't simply fall from the sky. Investing in physical production really does have a positive economic impact.
9. Do you REALLY think that Wall Street wants to get rid of the Fed after it's been shoving them $85 bn a month for the past 4 years? Not only does the "pro-capitalist" media not criticize such evidently corrupt policies, the clowns are panicking over whether or not a *slight* QE taper could throw us back into a recession!
