NYU Florence - La Pietra Dialogues: The European Union has the world´s largest GDP; the world´s third largest population; and is among the highest ranking in the world for health, education and living conditions. Through NYU Florence´s The EU in Focus series, students learn about what the EU is, its history, how it works and its role in the global economy. Students who participate in a working group linked to the series will develop a deeper understanding of how EU policy-making works through the study of two specific policy areas and will further their knowledge through a trip to other European cities where European institutions are located to meet with experts to find out how the policy-making process works from the inside. Nicolò Conti is Associate Professor of Political Science at the Unitelma Sapienza University of Rome. He has taught in international programmes at the University of Siena, Georgetown University’s Florence Centre, and the FIT State University of New York’s Florence Campus. His main research focus is on parties, elites, cabinets and the European Union. He has recently edited the books The Challenge of Coalition Government: The Italian Case (Routledge, 2015 - with F. Marangoni) and Party Attitudes Towards the EU in the Member States: Parties for Europe, Parties Against Europe (Routledge, 2014). He has published articles in Italian and international journals such as West European Politics, Acta Politica, South European Society and Politics, Contemporary Italian Politics, European Politics and Society.
