Odey Asset Management: Equity Markets will be 'Devastated' as Global Economy Slumps. Chris Bailey - an Economist and Ex-fund manager comments. In one note to clients of fund management company Odey, renowned UK hedge fund manager Crispin Odey stated that the expects a recession to hit several countries which keep struggling with the present economic conditions. The hedge fund manager said that stock markets will get devastated. 'Shares are currently being artifically propped up by investors on the lookout for better yields than bonds. Crispin makes some great points and when you think about the current setup of the world today, one conclusion you can come up to is that there is still a lot of debt and the underlying assets supporting that is very small. Volatility will take over at some point. But let's get into the practicalities of this. What matters in this world are clearly unique assets; things that are hard to replicate. So investors should be looking for companies that are well capitalised where the company is doing something unique or of a necessity perspective. They don't have big debts and they have a sensible structure.
