Overpopulation facts - the problem no one will discuss: Alexandra Paul at TEDxTopanga

Actress Alexandra Paul breaks the silence on one of the most taboo subjects of our time: human overpopulation and how to resolve the crisis that is adding 220,000 more people to the planet every day. In this fact filled talk, Alexandra discusses the overpopulation problems of 7 billion humans multiplying at a rate of 1 billion more people every 12 years and offers a simple solution: Transform negative cultural attitudes about the Only Child, and celebrate the short and long term benefits of small families. Alexandra reminds us that coercion in any form is not the answer to changing cultural and biological norms. Instead, rewiring our biology through strong cultural messaging, education of girls and empowerment of women are the solutions to stopping the current momentum towards 10 billion people on the planet in 40 years. Alexandra emphasizes that because each American born uses so many more resources than someone from a developing country, it is equally important that wealthy countries have small families. She discusses the economic tradeoffs of a smaller population in a world where capitalism reigns: because the capitalist system depends upon more and more consumers, there are strong forces at work to keep the numbers of people on earth growing. But at what expense? And since human numbers cannot keep getting larger forever, at what point will we change our ways? When it is too late? Most controversially, Alexandra believes that, if humans are to survive on this planet, the ideal family has one child and the ideal number of people on earth is 2 billion. "If that is too radical, then it is time for radicalism. Too much is at stake to be polite." This talk is full of overpopulation facts. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

people had big families back in the day way back in the days
because it was expected several wouldn't make it to adulthood -
While all people should ideally have fewer children, it is important that western nations additionally stop enabling irresponsible breeding by other parts of the globe by allowing mass immigration. Failure to do this will simply exacerbate the conspicuous "white genocide" that is already visibly occurring. Anybody who wishes to accuse me of racism, please, do come at me.

Overpopulation is not a problem

She won't be thinking this when she's all alone in old age .Anyway not to worry _ Malthusian economics is inescapable anyway

No offense to this lady, but some of the happiest or most content people in the world live in Mega-apolis like New York City. When people are educated, have meaningful work, cultural diversity and important social bonds in their life, living in close proximity to one another in skyscrapers is only as good as the planning and cooperation of the millions of people involved in city building. A slum like Lagos is total opposite of NYC. Life is what you make of it. It's not a matter of population growth so much as it is in extreme waste of resources. For example; suburban sprawl is the biggest misalocation of resources in Earth's history. Resource shortage is going to force us to adapt to the new economic reality of a more urbanized lifestyle as can be seen in the astronomical price of housing in big markets like San Fran and NYC. Either get educated and have high value skills, or get left behind.

This bitch got them crazy eyes. Lol. But nah, overpopulation is no problem. The population always stabilizes itself, and the UN predicts we will not reach 12 billion people. Especially as those third world countries who are responsible for this start to advance. Besides, a lot of people is not particularly a bad thing, anyway. It has been mathematically proven that more people equals more innovation.

What a stupid fucking retard. She did ZERO research.

2 billon? shit 500,000 sounds good
-
She cites the UN figure that we will reach 11 billion by 2100...but doesn't mention that the population is predicted to stabilise then. A population of only 2 billion would rob the earth of billions of unique minds, talents and innovations.

Empower women by taking away her only weapon in a cruel unforgiving world. Thank whomever you may belive in that you and your weak husband have "chosen" not too have children.

Im so glad she sees the problem. Only problem she doesn't see the solution... Education will not work in Africa, you might be able to convince caucasions they should have fewer children, but Africans are a whole lot more primitive, they fill continue breeding like bunnies, and even faster when they have western resources.

For a guy, there are 3 stages of existence. The first is when he's a son. The second is when he becomes a father. The third when he becomes a grand-father. From when he's a boy to when he becomes sexually aware, he does not care about sex. When he becomes sexually aware, he should have as many babies as he possibly can. Here's why: using any kind of contraception is un natural. Look at Nature. When stars are born and when they die, do you see any hint of controlled reproduction? Moving down to earth, when you see mountains form from volcanoes, do you see volcanoes practice any form of controlled reproduction? no. come down to trees. when you observe pollen in the spring, do those trees have a concept such as abortion or condoms? have you seen restrictions on reproduction thus far in nature? no. moving down. let's skip humans for a second, let's look at animals. do apes get abortions? do they practice "safe sex?" bears, deers, fish, giraffes, jackals, lions, monkeys, tigers, whales, zebras, have you ever seen or heard or learned about any instance on all of these species of animals, have you heard of any case of abortion, or use of contraception, or any deliberate attempt by the animal to postpone offspring, or to avoid it altogether? i just named 10 kinds of animals, but can you find 1 example? it is not like the question should we be vegetarians because half the animals can be seen as herbivores. reproduction is not even a point of argument. no animal uses birth control of any kind. they masturbate yes, but they do that out of desire and not to postpone having offprings. there is no moral reason. and why do we need a moral reason? it is NATURAL to have as many babies as possible. LIVE NATURALLY. who is to say what the worlld population should be?
