9. As a young Australian working class male, who is socially fairly left, though moderate in all else... Paul Keating will stand as one of the greatest leaders I've ever been privileged enough to witness in government. In his own words (although not speaking about himself), I view this man as someone who had "moral clarity". He grew from someone who wasn't privileged, but definitely had the appropriate support and development from those around him. I always utilise the information I can from those I work with, and those in a position of influence. The only way to do this is with a mutual respect, whether these people have the same agenda as you, or not. He rose in a difficult and exciting time for Australia and founded some of the best political reforms (in the time of his power AND influence), that we may ever enjoy. Australia owes him a great debt of gratitude and I only wish we had politicians today with the same depth of character or the same strength in their conviction. There weren't any who could outwit or outsmart his bloke and many tried and suffered the wrath of a genius who never read from a script. If your are true to your morals, you'll never need to refer to your notes - and I've never seen this in government since. Give us another Keating. We're long overdue.
