Political Ideology: Crash Course Government and Politics #35
Economy | Information | History | Online | Facts | World | Global | Money
So today Craig is going to look at political ideology in America. We're going to focus on liberals and conservatives and talk about the influencers of both of these viewpoints. Now, it's important to remember that political ideologies don't always perfectly correspond with political parties, and this correspondence becomes less and less likely over time. So, sure we can say that Democrats tend to be liberal and Republicans tend to be conservative, but we're not going to be talking about political parties in this episode. It's also important to note, that there are going to be a lot of generalizations here, as most peoples' ideologies fall on a spectrum, but we're going to try our best *crosses fingers* to summarize the most commonly held viewpoints for each of these positions as they are used pretty frequently in discussions of American politics. I respect my mother and father and have a close relationship with both, however, our political ideals are basically the opposite.

It's not just one thing or the other.
I was raised with conservative principles of religion.
My generation was victim of a Facist vs Socialist civil war.
Grew up with an open mind to liberalism. -
The problem is that a one dimensional categorization is overly simplified. There are really two distinct axes. One runs along financial lines and the other among social lines.

SMASH THE STATE! The Government are oppressors.

The funny thing is that the conservative right is heavily dominated by religious interests. These religious interests teach the maxim that we should love our neighbor as we love ourselves, but most of these people are against social programs for the struggling poor. The conservative agenda is a selfish, individualist agenda. The religious/Christian agenda is a communal agenda (much like the liberal left.) Profound hypocrisy on the part of the religious right.

conservatives always pushing Christianity down peoples throats. Cuntservatives dont want a separation of church and state. They want to run the country like N Korea where only a group of people is accepted and only a certain religion shpuld be followed.

Progressives want Communism. Not what Communism always ends up being, but the idea. Where everything is equal and everyone gets what they need and lives happily ever after. Only, if you don't trust the free market and the will of the people to be fair, how do you trust a few people in a totalitarian government to be fair to the people at large. Hint, that is why Communism always fails. To have a government in charge of everyone, they would have to have qualities that defy most human nature. You would have to have a governing class that has no interest in money or power. There lies the problem. Anyone with no interest in money or power will usually have no interest in ruling. That is why Communism fails. The one's that govern them are usually obsessed with money and power and keep most for themselves. Communism is a great idea or thought, but leaves out human nature or nature all together.
