Ethiopians like 80 year's behind to the rest of the world. They are dirt poor. A light rail being the latest technology they could make shows they seriously behind. Their literacy rate is still very low. Ethiopians in remote areas don't have electricity and water and they barely know how to read and right.

if someone gives you money; do you think you are rich?

what would you expect from 40 billion dollars loan. where is the rest of the money? do you know that the loan has to be paid by our children. do you know the difference between using bus vs trams if both costs you the same amount of time and money

Huh? Africans are poor at maintenance, believe that! Corruption and ineptitude will creep in. All this have been done before, couldn't maintain it! God bless Africa but I would be putting my eggs in this baskets yet, until years of proof.

As an Ethiopian American am proud of the improvments in Ethiopia but still long way to go. Very satisfied with the current government although more improvment is needed in many sectors including human right.

To say i'm happy for my country would be an understatement. Progress takes time and effort. Especially when you have so many people working against you. For those people crying over the fact that the government is moving farmers from their land to develop it need to understand that the governments in the West have done the exact same thing! Americans used to be farmers before the government came in and move them off the land to industrialize it. You can't live your entire life as an illiterate farmer in a globalized industrial society.
You can either join the rest of the world moving forward or you can live in the past in misery for the rest of your life. I choose the former. It is an uncomfortable process, yes, but in the end everyone will benefit. Just like everyone is benefiting in the West. The government is building thousands of housing to relocate the country folks into. From there we will educate theses farmers, since they are illiterate and their children can become the next doctors, engineers, nurses, politicians, etc. for the country. Don't listen to enemies of progress. They hate to see black Africans succeeding. They will do anything to sabotage your progress. You just keep on marching ahead. Love you Ethiopia and so proud to help in the progress. -
The reduction of poverty and improvement of the standard of living of the Ethiopian people is the primary goal of the EPRDF.

Very Interesting! Almost 20% poverty reduction is wonderful achievement. I am working on land related issue, and would dig more in understanding how land rights and agriculture development are linked in Ethiopia, and its contribution to this poverty reduction. Definitely Ethiopia is a case to follow, specially by Mozambique, my country.
