The tenge has lost half its value since the country moved to a floating exchange rate in August 2015. Hey Vice,
The caption at the beginning of the video reads, "Protesters in the capital demand banks recalculate their loans." "The capital" is used in reference to Almaty as seen in the background and stated in the caption. The capital of Kazakhstan is not Almaty, it is Astana. This changed in 1997, and is a common mistake. One I might have also made if I didn't live in Astana, the capital.
