Reconstruction and 1876: Crash Course US History #22
Economy | Information | History | Online | Facts | World | Global | Money
In which John Green teaches you about Reconstruction. After the divisive, destructive Civil War, Abraham Lincoln had a plan to reconcile the country and make it whole again. Then he got shot, Andrew Johnson took over, and the disagreements between Johnson and Congress ensured that Reconstruction would fail. The election of 1876 made the whole thing even more of a mess, and the country called it off, leaving the nation still very divided. John will talk about the gains made by African-Americans in the years after the Civil War, and how they lost those gains almost immediately when Reconstruction stopped. You'll learn about the Freedman's Bureau, the 14th and 15th amendments, and the disastrous election of 1876. John will explore the goals of Reconstruction, the successes and ultimate failure, and why his alma mater Kenyon College is better than Raoul's alma mater NYU. I'm meant to write a few paragraphs based on what is said in this video compared to conclusions I've come to about how segregation was imposed on the South and I was thrilled when I received this task, considering John Green is my favourite author and I seem to be the only person in my class reading his books. ;-)

Jesus Christ... I am ashamed for being a American because of this terrible past that still roots into our society... at least I don't live in the south (I've been there, and I have to say that there are far too much racists).

It's four am on a Thursday morning, I haven't slept. Why? School and all around work. I have a test at 8 am on period 5. So yes let us pull an all-nighter for the sixth time this month that has only lasted 15 days already! Will I remember all this? Probably not.

what was the progressive movement
-
a shitty comment of opinion that slings mud at modern republicans! I never would have imagined that from this channel! Voter ID laws that democrats oppose and repiblicans support, is not racist. It would aid in the prevention of voter fraud which dems seem to rave about after they had lost. just like a wall is not racist.

John low key alluded to his own book (TFIOS) "the rollercoaster only goes up from here" is technically "Im on a rollercoaster that only goes up" but it still made nerdy little me giggle while cramming for my test
