Resource based economy: Sue Everatt at TEDxPasseigDesBorn
Economy | Information | History | Online | Facts | World | Global | Money
Sue Everatt explains how it would be if the world economy was based on resources instead of money. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

Reading some comments, it looks like some people think that it is a fight againt the current system. Its not, its just a better option to live, using the current resources.
So, its useless to fight, trying to put our opinion. Instead, the RBE is an option, which is outside the box, and viable.
So we need contribution, collaboration to extend this ideias or create new ones aligned to real resources towards an improving quality of life, globally of course.
In other words, it is useless to be aggressive, so if we are proposing a transition from a "cart wain" to "electric train", dont try to argue using elements from the old paradigm, like horseshoe, horses or excrements, because doesnt make any sense. It is a change that will emerge from society, so we need all of you.
And lets remember that, from the nature point of view, we are all the same, even being different ( very special ).
and, "sorry if my english is poor.. im not native english speakr" -
i love the idea of more people than just jaque fresco talking about this, but she made some key errors in some points (like money creating scarcity without explaining why, money does not create it, its the system we live in that is controlled by the government).on top of that i find her a bad speaker which distracts of what she has to tell. ooh well, at least people are listening to the ideas and that is always a good thing!
-
Wow, sometimes TED allows people to talk that they HAVE no clue about. NO, money does not create artificial scarcity - government does in certain cases; however, scarcity ALWAYS exists.
-
wow, this is lunacy. Apparently Sue never read Mises. Economic calculation problem? anyone....?

"If machines produce everything we need, the outcome will depend on how things are distributed. Everyone can enjoy a life of luxurious leisure if the machine-produced wealth is shared, or most people can end up miserably poor if the machine-owners successfully lobby against wealth redistribution. So far, the trend seems to be toward the second option, with technology driving ever-increasing inequality"- Stephen Hawking

Science and technology have been misused several times, they won't give us utopia. Until humans recognize and love each other as humans the shit we are in now will persist!

I don't know whether to cry or laugh at the people here who think this is not Communism. Do another 94 million need to die before people understand the insanity in this ideology? If someone comes to you claiming not to be a nazi but climes to adhere to an ideology that involves killing all the jews, is that not Nazism?
You are being presented here with an ideology that talks about getting rid of money and private property. That should ring alarm bells in anybody who has studied some history. Everywhere Communism has been tried it has turned out to be a disaster for everybody living under it. So please, let's not be stupid, we can't afford to live through this ideology again! -
Science and Technology, given the strength they have thanks to Capitalism which allowed us to efficiently and effectively channel resources, thanks to money, which allows us to meticulously track and measure resources.
@5:30 she brings up a legitimate problem solved by alternative wealth distribution processes. Which are abundant, but the most viable at the moment is investing.
Lovely visuals, but absolutely wretched knowledge/logic. Can I call it logic?
Those of you who are interested in the Venus Project, please research it in-depth. It is a scam at best. -
You cant automate everything. Every robot machine etc will fail at some point, repairing is vry complex task. Our machines is very very stupid at the moment, they work only by certain algorithms. Even simple machine can have millions of different malfunctions. So who will work? Do people love to work for tomatoes if those are for free? For complex and or unique repair task you need minimum human like artificial intelligence if not more. At the moment we barely have cockroach AI.

As a practical alternative to make our societies/communities more equitable places to live, consider the works of Henry George and contemporary folk like Fred Harrison. Subject: Land Value Taxation (An economic solution that requires governments to collect the rent of land. These economic rents are used to fund public services and goods.) It is what I call good-n-wholesome principled-hooligan economics. https://vimeo.com/58491087

Proponents of a Resource Based Economy seem to have good intentions, but their understanding of even basic economics is unbelievably limited. First off just to clear this up, all the term scarcity means is that there are not "infinite" resources." That's it. Scarcity is not caused by using money as a means of allocating resources either. In fact, using money has greatly reduced scarcity. For all you people out there who blame poverty and hunger on capitalism, please understand that thanks to capitalism more people have the internet today than people had running water 100 years ago. Finally advocates of RSB economies have created a confused relation between the inevitable path technology is on (towards surpassing humans in pretty much every aspect sometime in the relatively near future) and any current woes humanity faces in the present or has in the past. The fact that the wonderful things described in this video may one day become a reality only indicates the obvious idea that humanity will be more technologically advanced in the future than it is today. In reality money is not keeping us from achieving what was described in this video, and the fact that building such technology or cities would be prohibitively expensive also does not support that point. The fact is our technology is too limited to build such things at the present, and the price system relays that point to us via 'prices'. The tying together of potential technologies in the future and the fact that we use the price system to allocate resources today as the presenter has done is illogical.
I am openly challenging any Resource Based Economy advocates to refute what I have said. -
dish ish communishm!! look mama I'm arguin on the internez! hurr durr

It makes complete sense but how would say the first country like Iceland transfer into this economy being that food, energy, water, import goods and export goods, etc needs to keep flowing without pause. Anybody have any good links?
