The Russian and South Korean Presidents exchanged opinions on the situation currently developing in the Far East region and in particular on Korean peninsula, speaking shortly after the Saturday’s meeting during the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) on Russki Island. SOT, Russian President Vladimir Putin (Russian): "I should note that the Republic of Korea is an important and prospective partner of Russia in the Asia-Pacific region. An intensive political dialogue is being maintained between the countries. This is our third meeting with Mrs. Park Geun-hye over the past year." SOT, Russian President Vladimir Putin, (Russian): "Our bilateral economic ties traditionally have a close and mutually beneficial character. Unfortunately, last year the trade turnover between our countries decreased amid the difficult world outlook. And today we discussed what should we do to return our trade turnover to a sustainable recovery trend for the interests of our states." SOT, South Korean President Park Geun-hye, (Korean): "For the further extension of the beneficial Korean-Russian cooperation it is especially important to resolve the North Korean nuclear issue which is the greatest threat to security in this region." SOT, South Korean President Park Geun-hye, (Korean): "Currently, Resolution 2270, accepted by the UN Security Council and containing the most stringent sanctions against North Korea, is being fully implemented. That is why now there is the last chance to impact the actions of North Korea." SOT, South Korean President Park Geun-hye, (Korean): "In this regard, thanks to the leadership qualities of President Putin, the government of the Russian Federation has a firm position regarding North Korea’s possession of nuclear weapons. And it [the government] plays a constructive role in the implementation of the resolution of the UN Security Council on restraining North Korea from further provocations. And we express our words of gratitude for this."
