Do Not Pass Go, Do Not Collect $200: Monopolies as an Introduction to Economics Saul Levmore, William B. Graham Distinguished Professor of Law at The University of Chicago In the study of economics, the big questions recapitulate the little ones. If you think about the cost of a chocolate chip cookie or how airline ticket pricing works and you do so rigorously with an inquisitive mind, you will soon enough gain insight into how the whole world really operates. From the basics of pricing, demand, and competition to global politics and the future of government, Professor Levmore makes it easy to see economics at work all around us. People are not rational.Informed bossiness people might be but the average consumer is basically a chimpanzee .If they were rational the 1970 tobacco industry making smoking a feminist move wouldn't have worked nor the recent cover girl model add and they wouldn't belief that trump has any ability to lead the United States.

Need to get back to Classical Econ, folks!

I came here to say that neoclassical economics is utter nonsense.

I'm a physics major but because of people like you (and my dad who has a masters in economics) is what made me seek for an economics minor and (maybe someday) seek for more education in the subject. Thank you so much.

Jeez! What a dumb way to start a lecture on basic concepts of economics by comparing the price of a cookie and a house and ask why a house is more expansive than a cookie.Isn't it obvious? Find a better a comprasion. This can only be explained by your target audience either is dumb americans or children.

There are ads in this lesson. Is advertising a part of economics? Thumbs down for the ads.

Hmmm, I might have to disagree only with the last part of this at 40:40
China has a lot of free market dynamics associated with labor, and a migrant workforce -

Does Earth contain scarce resources? Hmm...
Economics: Needy humans betraying other needy humans by manipulating Earth's resources to be scarce, causing needy humans to betray friends, neighbors, ecosystems, biospheres, atmospheres, Hydrosphere's, etc. -

The Very FOUNDATION of ECONOMIC Prosperity in this Country "USA"... Began on the Backs!!! of millions of Slaves!!, We won't forget that!!!, that is all.....

Doesn't the house cost more than the cookie because the materials to produce it cost more?
-
The idea about the Cookie and the Bakery are just quite dumb. It doesn't cause competition, it's creates oligopolies. It happens for many different things.

if BIGair is a monopoly, and owned by its customers, would it not give the "best" price to its owner's/clients?
