SCARY DECAPITATED DOLL ISLAND (ISLA DE LAS MUNECAS) IN MEXICO CITY
Economy | Information | History | Online | Facts | World | Global | Money
Seen on Ghost Hunters, Ghost Adventures, and many other shows about the scariest places in the world. The terror of this location has stretched across the planet. The story is much more than an island of Mexican Dolls. Isla de las Munecas, or Island of the Dolls is found just south of Mexico City in an area called Xochimilco. I hit up my friends Exploring with Josh Exploring with Cody to help me check out this urban legend. Awesome dudes. Also my GF Mariannela helped us out a lot with this. Make sure to check out their links below! Julian Santana, the creator moved here in the mid 1900s because of heartbreak. He desired to just be alone, he didn't any intention on creating one of the most haunted places in Mexico. Upon arriving he witnessed a girl fall into the river and drown. That night, he heard horrible screams, and believed the ghost of the girl had come to haunt him. He began hanging dolls from trees to keep her spirit happy, he did this for several decades before dying of a heart attack in the exact same place the girl had died. Creepy, I know. There are lots of things to do in this area of CDMX (or DF), but the main attraction is taking the colourful trajineras for a spin around the chiampas. This probably sounds pretty fancy, but basically it means jumping on a colourful boat, sitting and drinking beer while Mariachi bands pass by. You'd never expect one of the scariest places in Mexico is just around the corner, covered in decapitated dolls, spider webs, and ghost stories. This was the 4th time I had ventured down to Xochimilco to find doll island. There are a few issues with the adventure if you speak english. There are three ports you can leave from, make sure you go to EMBARCADERO CUEMANCO, the other two are full of scammers (at least from my experience). Also, keep in mind there are two Isla de las Muñecas. One is a replica, and I believe they built it because the original is much further from the launch point, and pushing a 10m boat through canals for 2 hours each way is a pain. If you're a fan of horror or paranormal activity, this will be an experience for you.
