Read the couple posts. Please disregard them. Thanks for the explanation

I like the videos but hate how he repeats words like 50 times.
-
About as accurate as Wikipedia. Present a lesson without even knowing correct pronunciation.
Reminds me of my student teaching experience when my mentor (a 30 yr vet teacher) constantly mispronounced general vocab...like using TH sound for Thames instead of hard T sound, and Versailles as Ver-sail-es. UGH -
i have a big test on WWI tomorrow, and this video was very beneficial! Thank you for making!
-
Very well explained, thank you. And don't worry about the prononciation of Schlieffen: it is indeed [shleefen], with an e as in sleeve. (Just turn the s into sh, replace the v with f, and add an n. As you did most of the time.)

I A bit lacking in authenticity as it imply s that Alsace/Lorraine were not originally German, which they were since Charlemagne. Spruce up your history! Don

I think the "ladies from hell" was a reference to the scots not the irish.
-
very good video!!
-
The Germans called the Belgiums "the chocolate solders" The Irish as "ladies from hell" and the Americans as "dou boys"

In both wars Germany lost the initiative to win in Russia. The Kaiser saw his chance for a quick victory in Russia, but Von Moltke convinced him to invade France instead, resulting in a bloody stalemate. Hitler likewise lost half of his air force over England, instead of turning towards Russia immediately after Dunkirk. Both had reached the point of no return by invading the West, and lost their chance to rule the world's largest country. Hitler had lost his mind to drugs by that time anyway.
-
Schlieffen and his successors correctly anticipated a slow Russian mobilization and feared that supply lines would be stretched by fighting an enemy which could withdraw endlessly. I can't say what would have happened had they invaded Russia that August, but I understand the strategic logic of settling upon a decisive campaign to force a surrender from one opponent before another can pose a threat.

lovely video aswell, just to start of Schlieffen is prenounced with a ai (ie is prenonunced ai in german), I have read somewhere that Schlieffen said that the outer german army (the one who later failed) had to be stronger, but when they send out the truppes they didnt do what Schlieffen told them to so the outer arme wasnt that strong that Schlieffen said it needed to be and that mistake later led to the flank and the oppening
-
Schleiffen, the initiall planner of this manuever's dying words were "keep the right flank strong" von Moltke did not have the nerve to do so.
-
The Von Schlieffen plan was actually mostly abandoned! The original best plan was to go through the Netherlands, then Belgium and then into France as some sort of giant wave with its leverage at Alsace Lorraine. Invading neutral Netherlands was abandoned because this meant they had less shore lines to protect. Though this was true, the leverage was not as great.
-
I believe it is pronounced von-SHLAY-fen
-
The Kaiser's biggest mistake. He should have held the border only, then use most of his troops to invade Russia, which was his first idea anyway.
-
I agree with you but that was not entirely relevant
-
Don't worry the original comment is not shown for having too many negative votes. Though i can't believe it had such an effect on the people reading it? Then again maybe its a good thing they can just 'virtually' remove things, if they had any power in the real world they'd be dangerous if they need to freek out over a joke.

Very true, perhaps I was not in my best wits while writing that considering I should have know I would look like a right moron...
