Sustainable Energy Now and in a Livable Future - Dan Kammen (SETI Talks 2016)
Economy | Information | History | Online | Facts | World | Global | Money
It has been scientifically clear for some time that the global community must decarbonize the energy and material system entirely by mid-century. In additional recent energy future scenarios have highlighted the pathways to reach this dramatic decarbonization objective on household to village to national and regional levels. The short -- few decade -- time needed for this transition demands a rapid scale- up on current and near-term technologies, while the long-term complete energy sector transition opens the door for an innovation and industrial transformation program. In this talk both the near- and long-term energy vision will be explored in the context of a clean energy economy, and the social and equity implications.

science for the last ten years point's to that we have gone past the point of no return.
No real resources are put into research clean energy, in the eu/UK we put Billions into solar panels and wind (both only worth while in few area's in the eu, UK should not be using them). maybe the technology will one day be useable, without research we will never get there. The only thing we in the West could do is use a next gen nuclear, and make hydrogen to run car etc with extra energy from the plant's. It is painful that people don't believe the data. -
what does this have to do with finding alien life?

It is so hard to listen to this I had to stop. I was in college some 40 years ago when they started this talk... does anyone really believe the world will act in its own interest and go sustainable? Not until catastrophe. then maybe we work together. But this 2degree target is a farce. The communist Red Chinese are going to stop at 2030? What a commitment....good first step my foot. I am glad i am old. No doubt you are too. Party on

As I understand it we're currently in an interglacial period that will last a few more thousands of years after which half the globe will be buried under massive glaciers. I feel that this in itself will represent a challenge for poor communities so are there any climate models that suggest a benefit in global warming in terms of reducing the severity or length of an ice age?

Sorry, lecture section was a waste of my time. I recommend skip ahead to question section. Missing ingredient ,, molten salt reactor and use of thorium.

SETI=co-opted. Damn shame, really..

I dont know where he got the data forecasting the percentage of people without electricity in the future but im calling bullshit on it. The percentage of people in poverty has dropped dramatically, and the middle class has grown dramatically in the world. Eg China has almost as many middle class citizens as America has citizens. Also the percentage of people in absolute poverty has dropped from 80% of the world population in the 80s to less than 20% today and approaching 10%.
Also past 10 years many investors have talked about Africa as a great investment opportunity as many of those countries are getting their act together. Their stock markets have dramatically improved and corruption is being reduced. The better they get the more money they get and the more incentive they have to improve further. -
Anthropogenic inputs are NOT driving climate! This is attempt to politicize the weather! LOL. FACTS: Planet is greening, the man-made CO2 is held and reacts in lower atmosphere making an expanding tropical zone. Lightning NOx is far more reactive in the atmosphere. Keep in mind that NOx has a >250x greater Global Warming Potential (GWP) ... "The explanation is NOx from fossil fuel burning is released close to the Earth's surface and is consumed rapidly by chemical reactions before being transported upward. Lightning, however, directly releases NOx throughout the entire troposphere. The lightening source over North America for NOx is sufficiently large, so that it has implications on free troposphere NOx over other parts of the world, most notably Europe, which is downwind of the U.S., given the prevailing westerly flow in the Northern Hemisphere mid-latitudes." see

What about "local" SETI? The reality of Anomalies right here in our own backyard points strongly to the presence of non-human intelligence right here in front of our faces, some pf these anomalies respond to direct signals and even in some cases had changed geometry taking shapes correlated to the signals sent to them. Wakeup SETI! you maybe looking too far when what you are looking for is very close and many people are already ahead of you, the race is on and you are far behind.
