Steve as a white person you can get by without learning Chinese and it's acceptable. The rest of us have to work so much harder to gain acceptance and compliance in China. Only the recipient of racism and prejudice can really tell you if it is indeed happening. Here you have a Mexican woman explaining her experiences and how she sees the Chinese view of people of color and you ignore it. Being perceived as a monster, a spirit, a ghost, an animal, ugly, stupid or any other derogatory term actually counts as racism which is having a showing the belief that a particular race is superior to another. The Chinese do indeed believe they are superior to people of Color but not to whites. Yes much of it is due to ignorance but even the educated mainly older Chinese will express these views. Everywhere I've traveled throughout Asia i've treated with respect and kindness contrary to what other people of color tell me. It might be because I have a lot of money or because I won't settle for less
