The Future of Europe: economics lecture by Stiglitz The Future of Europe by Nobel Prize Winner Prof. Joseph E. Stiglitz It was a great privilege for the UBS Center to present Prof. Stiglitz, recipient of the Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences, at the public lecture on January 27, 2014. The former Chief Economist of the World Bank – who was named one of the 100 most influential people in the world by Time Magazine – has been a vocal and eloquent commentator on these topics and will undoubtedly provide plenty of food for thought. Read more about the event in our UBS Center Newsletter. About the speaker Joseph E. Stiglitz is Professor at Columbia University, New York. In 2001, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in economics for his analyses of markets with asymmetric information, and he was a lead author of the 1995 Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, which shared the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize. Stiglitz, who "Time" named one of the 100 most influential people in the world, was a member of the Council of Economic Advisers during the Clinton administration and served as Senior Vice President and Chief Economist of the World Bank. Beyond his prolific academic achievements, he is also recognized around the world as a leading economic educator and has written numerous books and textbooks that have been translated into more than a dozen languages and have become international bestsellers. His most recent book is "The Price of Inequality: How Today's Divided Society Endangers our Future."
