In which John Green teaches you about the New Deal, which was president Franklin D. Roosevelt's plan to pull the united States out of the Great Depression of the 1930's. Did it work? Maybe. John will teach you about some of the most effective and some of the best known programs of the New Deal. They weren't always the same thing. John will tell you who supported the New Deal, and who opposed it. He'll also get into how the New Deal changed the relationship between the government and citizens, and will even reveal just how the Depression ended. (hint: it was war spending) Follow us! @thecrashcourse @realjohngreen @crashcoursestan @raoulmeyer @br8dybrunch

The two biggest economic crashes in this countries history were caused by a lack of financial regulation. No matter how many times this countries economy crashes and burns because Bankers gamble peoples money away, the right wing will still live in denial about its causes.

As Thomas Sowell explains, in 1929 after the crush the unemployment rate rose to 9% and then gradually withdraw to ~6%. Then came Hoover and FDR with the new deal and the unemployment rate didn't drop from the double digits for the rest of the decade and more. Also, the reasons why the WW2 seemingly ended the depression was because a huge percentage of unemployed force was enlisted in the army and as such they weren't considered unemployed.
naturally the unemployment rate plummitedSo as we see from these statistics is that government intervention only boosted and prolonged the recession rather than fixing it. -
John's wife is lucky as hell. :)

SOCIALISM SAVED AMERICA. economies without a free market system (neoliberalism), but with strong government control, tight regulations and high taxes for the rich had the largest growth rates: US 1936-1975, Japan and Germany after the war, and currently China. Don't forget heavy government investments in new technologies, especially in the defense sector. There would not be microchips, automation or the Internet without it today.
Heck without the New Deal (socialism) there would not even be a USA most likely.
Free market economy = monopoly capitalism, economic stagnation with poverty for the masses, and riches for the few, and lots of bubbles that necessitate government intervention by bought politicians.? -
Trumps gonna be the new president. how do y'all feel about this? Personally I voted for clinton.
-
Please run for president John Green

History is my favorite subject! I don't get how people call it boring.
Nothing more interesting!!!! -
People try to argue against FDR's policies but its laughable as Social Democracy has been proven to be on the right side of history. WWII coupled with the New Deal is what created the " American Century"
