The Renaissance: Was it a Thing? - Crash Course World History #22
Economy | Information | History | Online | Facts | World | Global | Money
In which John Green teaches you about the European Renaissance. European learning changed the world in the 15th and 16th century, but was it a cultural revolution, or an evolution? We'd argue that any cultural shift that occurs over a couple of hundred years isn't too overwhelming to the people who live through it. In retrospect though, the cultural bloom in Europe during this time was pretty impressive. In addition to investigating what caused the Renaissance and who benefitted from the changes that occurred, John will tell you just how the Ninja Turtles got mixed up in all this. Any chances you'll do one of these for the Enlightenment sometime?
-
Riiight so you doubt the fact the renaissance may have ever happened and give all the credit to the Muslims ... ok.
I love this channel but and it's critical and open mind on most matters but this is a bit of stretch to be honest. -
I saw hitler in there
-
Wait...what about the Mongols?
-
What do you mean with secularism?
-
John isn't denying the existence of the Renaissance, he's just questioning whether it was a purely European concept.
-
ayo dude... you talk way to fast! slow down!!!!!!
-
The Renaissance was a cultural revolution. And as John himself consistently reminds us, revolutions are not events so much as they are gradual processes. That's why the Renaissance took so long and it most definitely did happen.

please do a video on the Scottish enlightenment

Why are there 2 globes on your table? 🤔
-
the renaissance is the persistence of science and the humanities that enable science to propagate.
-
Did you know in the year 1500 that 5% of the men in Europe were literate and 1% of the women in Europe were literate? That would be at the height of The Renaissance.

The assassins creed part
-
all this video was is some buzzfeed looking nerd shilling for Islam and giving European history to Arabs.
-
great work OX

One of the all time greatest inventions, the printing press, which made books more affordable made it's mark during the age of the renaissance. The pope was pulling a trump around this time, so i'm sure there was a lot of politics behind getting people to read the bible.

I still appreciate the effort. I was using overstatement, of course, to tamper your need to give Islam credit where we are not sure it belongs just because this is the current "thing" to do.
-
So Islam caused the Renaissance? Wow, way to revise. Also, I am thankful that you took the time in this video to name all the creative minds in Islamic countries that contributed to the Renaissance and revolutionized the way we now see our world.
