Las Vegas is proving more accommodating: Boyd Gaming announced Monday that it was selling its stalled Echelon resort to Genting for $350 million in cash. This acquisition gives Genting an entry point into Vegas and may signal renewed interest in the U.S. gambling hub, which has long been eclipsed by Macau in terms of revenues. Cash-rich Genting, which operates in Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia and the Philippines, doesn't own any casinos in Macau and derives its largest gaming revenues from its Malaysian resorts. The 87-acre project in Vegas, which was mothballed in 2008, is to be rebranded as Resorts World Las Vegas with the first phase due to open in 2015. When completed, says Genting [pdf], it will offer 3,500 hotel rooms and 175,00 sq ft of gaming space. http://www.forbes.com/sites/simonmontlake/2013/03/04/malaysias-genting-to-pay-350m-for-boyds-mothballed-vegas-resort/ Syria, Iran say US aid to rebels will extend war DAMASCUS, Syria (AP) — Syria and Iran said Saturday that Washington's decision to provide aid to rebels will only prolong the fighting aimed at toppling President Bashar Assad whose troops scored a major strategic victory in the country's heavily contested north. http://news.yahoo.com/syria-iran-us-aid-rebels-extend-war-155957995.html Newtown victim's father makes case for U.S. assault weapons ban WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The father of a 6-year-old boy who was killed in the shooting massacre at a Connecticut school made a dramatic appeal on Wednesday for President Barack Obama's uphill bid to ban sales of military-style assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition magazines. http://feeds.reuters.com/~r/Reuters/domesticNews/~3/4dx9jBSimVM/us-usa-guns-congress-idUSBRE91Q1BC20130227 http://www.wochit.com
