Webster University and the Office of Corporate Partnerships welcome Richard D. Wolff, Professor of Economics Emeritus, University of Massachusetts, as the 2014 Global Leader in Residence for the College of Arts & Sciences. Wolff's work challenges the conventional wisdom that capitalism is the ideal framework for the political economy. Recently, he has concentrated on analyzing the causes of alternative solutions to the global economic crisis. In 2010, Wolff put his economic theory into action, and co-founded Democracy at Work, a project that aims to build a social movement and society whose workplace is more equitable, sustainable and democratic. On April 9, 2014, Richard Wolff delivered this presentation, entitled "How the Economic Crisis Reshapes Europe" to Webster University students, faculty and staff.

Webster University and the Office of Corporate Partnerships welcome Richard D. Wolff: Cool. Hope CBS/NBC/ABC and their Corporate Partnerships also invite those who speak the truth and facts instead of the usual parade of hacks.

When the light of the economic truth is fully shone, many will not open their eyes and others will see the truth for what it is in spite of the pain, but, nevertheless, once the truth is known, those that have the courage to challenge a system that has done as much damage as free market capitalism has will inspire the rest to finally shake off our economic chains.

Richard Wolff (middle initial D or P depending on ?), is amazing. He cares so much he comes from this story from all angles making all the more sense. He seems to step on no toes yet leaves no one unaccountable. Mr Wolff holds all of us to high standards. Must be his honest respect for the individual in our species.
Truly love Chomsky but this dude gives answers that seem just, plausible and workable. -
Brilliant ! Thank you !

He describes the socialist economies of Europe as being some ideal that we in the US need to aspire to. Free health care(which is never free), one month guaranteed vacations, ect.. What he doesn't say is what socialists never want to acknowledge. Everything is three times more expensive, and a ten percent unemployment rate in many of those countries is the norm. You are going to pay the piper one way or another. These socialist governments are now going broke trying to provide everything they have promised to their people (ergo, Greece). The problem with a government trying to provide everything for its people, instead of requiring the people to provide for themselves, is that it eventually runs out of "other peoples" money. When the "givers" finally realize that their wealth is simply going to be confiscated, they either stop producing, or they learn how to hide it better. Eventually, you run out of "other peoples" money to give. We are going to find this out in the US as well. Sooner rather than later. We are going the way of Europe. Mr Wolff should be very pleased.

Excellent presentation. I really think Dr. Wolff did a great job of explaining why capitalism, at least as we know it, must be replaced from so many different angles. Make the time to watch this video. Well worth it!

Marxist Socialism leads only to Anarchy; Unless, the Governing Socialist Power enforces Rule, inevitably with the Barrel of a gun. Socialism's greatest fault is Ignoring Human Nature: To be at Liberty for Self Empowerment & Advancement. Socialist Powers wish to Change Human Nature; But, they know that is imposable. Control by force, the gun, is always the result, along with Humanities Reduction. Remember: "Inside Every Liberal is a Totalitarian Screaming to get out": Mr. David Horowitz. See: "The Truth About Karol Marx" on You Tube. All Socialists advocate the "Fools Gold" of ideas. Looks good on paper & sounds good in lectures; But, Is the greatest Reducer to Human Advancement. The Mind at Liberty is the Answer & has always been, Not the Mind under the control of a Power insisting IT Knows better how any & all Must Live. Those Garnering such power are the Great Danger. For if anyone dares challenge their insistence the Gold they present is "Fools Gold", they must then break you by force. The truth be damned, it is the Socialists enemy.

The Crash of 2008 was nothing more than the middle and lower classes running out of money and being unable to get more credit.

Job destruction and wage stagnation is permanent and escalating and NOTHING CAN STOP IT! Nothing. Not governments, not social organizations, not politicians, not reformers, not charities, not the church, not town hall meetings, NOTHING!
-
There has not been nor will there be a precipitous "economic collapse." The collapse has been going on for a half-century since 1964 in a slow, gradual, drawn-out, almost imperceptible destruction of jobs and stagnation of wages. The frog is being boiled slowly.

U.S. employers MAKE MONEY by outsourcing, H1-B visa in-sourcing, and automating, mechanizing, computerizing, and robotizing jobs. Make this reality the starting point of all your thoughts and opinions.

Trillions of dollars of quantitative easing and not a dollar goes to create living wage jobs for U.S. citizens.

Tens of millions of young Americans simply do not understand that they will work at slave wage jobs for 25 years and suffer unemployment for another 25 years. Fifty years of economic hell.

After gaining a bachelor's degree, masters degree, computer literacy, and fluency in Spanish, I am now on rent vouchers, food stamps, energy assistance, Medicaid, food pantries, bus pass and Obama-phone. This is so because I do not live in a capitalist republic but rather a class war plutocracy.
