As an argentinian sociology student, I'm able to go to college (in a country where the best university is free) because I was taught since I was young how to keep a study habit that allowed me not to "fail". And because I didn't have to worry about any basics needs. "Keep an eye on the price" sounds too much like that "work hard and you will get it" stupid ideology. I'm here not mainly for my "merits", I'm here because I have facilities that others don't have...

How do you think the meritocratic ideology will affect the changing economic climate in America? So far it seems people use it to support the idea that the poor are so of their own fault, which is sociologically unsound. Do you think this trend will continue?
