What Would Happen if CALIFORNIA SECEDED
Economy | Information | History | Online | Facts | World | Global | Money
Before we get started, we want to point out two things. First is that a state leaving the Union would be an incredibly complex legal issue, and who knows what people and companies will do if a Caliexit happens. So to simplify the scenario, this is looking at what would happen if nothing changed in California. The only difference is that California is now its own separate country. →Subscribe for new videos every day! https://www.youtube.com/user/toptenznet?sub_confirmation=1 → → GET A T-SHIRT - http://www.toptenz.net/toptenz-t-shirts →Top 10 Objects That Were Clearly Invented Just to Annoy Physics: https://youtu.be/0MVGeRa-vLo →Simon's VLOG: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCvqt8j7DfPmveJp3UOk9XTg Entertaining and educational top 10 lists from TopTenzNet! Interesting summary of charts of how California ranks within the U.S.:
>Cali imports 33% of electricity from outside the state: http://www.forbes.com/sites/judeclemente/2016/04/03/californias-growing-imported-electricity-problem/#17857ec1e96b >Cali ranks 44 (out of 50) in fiscal solvency: https://www.mercatus.org/statefiscalrankings >Cali ranks #1 on amount of federal money spent on/in the state ($333bil): http://www.usgovernmentdebt.us/federal_spending_by_state.php
>Cali ranks #1 on fed tax collected ($273bil): http://www.usgovernmentrevenue.com/federal_revenue_by_state.php?year=2010&chart=Z0&units=b&rank=t >Cali ranks #1 in population (39.5mil): http://worldpopulationreview.com/states/ >Cali 2.3% in GDP growth (2014, states range from 6.3% to -1.3%): https://www.bea.gov/newsreleases/regional/gdp_state/gsp_newsrelease.htm
>Cali ranks #1 in welfare spending ($44.8bil on pop 39.3mil): http://www.usgovernmentspending.com/compare_state_spending_2016b40a >Cali ranks #1 in healthcare spending ($107.8bil, $45.2bil for "medical service" & $62.6 medical welfare): http://www.usgovernmentspending.com/compare_state_spending_2016b10an
Sum total: more spent on Cali by fed govt. then what it contributes monetarily to fed govt.!!
Would be interesting if someone could make a coefficient ranking by population size vs income/spending so a clearer picture of income/spending per person (averaged obviously) by state on the various categories! -
I hope they leave---the sooner the better.

In Jim Falls Wisconsin the Grudem Cheese company runs 24/7/365 making 1 million pounds of cheese curds every 24 hours, it's shipped out in tank cars by rail to make cheese, like Kraft and others.
-
Seems like the people who thing CA will fail upon secession must be from the south.
-
most of these effects would be avoided with a good free trade and free movement treaty. it wouldn't be inconsistent with the goals of sucession
-
If California seceded the American economy would take a hit, but it would still be the largest in the world. The second is the European Union, which isn't even a nation.
-
yay I live in California no more trump 🤗 and no more stuff for him !!! 😂😈👊

Any Californians watching this video?
-
More reason for California to secede, it looks like it can sustain itself & the ideals for the state is almost the opposite for the rest of the country.
-
A point that was overlooked in regard to California's production of fruits and vegetables - If California produces 16.5% of the fruits and vegetables consumed in the US, the actual impact to the US would be minimal because of a simple factor that wasn't taken into consideration - population. If they produce 16.5% of the produce but are over 12% of the population, then they are also 12% of the consumers of the produce. This isn't even factoring in that Californians consume more fruits and vegetables, on average, than the typical american. So they produce 16.5% and consume at least 12%, making the actual impact <4.5%. There were many, many things overlooked in this video. California does not have an independent electrical grid or source of electricity. In order to Calexit, Cali would have to go through the financial burden of creating their own grid and source of power or they would have to pay the US for that power and grid maintenance. These are just two points of many things that were overlooked.

If California were to secede I could piss on the American flag and won't have to worry about rednecks shooting me with a shotgun
-
11. It will fuel similar secessionist movements everywhere. 12. These new smaller
states will begin to compete for citizens on a commercial basis. 13. The era of the sovereign individual will begin. -
Human nature is to adapt. I think both USA and California will survive. However, I think California will be hurt most, as we don't know how many people will want to lose their citizenship and join a new one. Start a new country from scratch. That will be a tremendous headache.

The average IQ of the rest of the country would rise

assume there was no fight at all and in the spirit of brotherly love. california was allowed to leave no hard feelings. the 6th largest economy in the world would collapse overnight. the OP does say about California does not get back what it pays in taxes from the fed. with no recognition of what generates those taxes being paid. federal jobs in california 2014 total 443,349. that is a hell of alot of income that will be gone. so day one as a country they lose close to 1/2 million jobs. at $60,000 per year that would be a net loss of $26,600,940,000. pocket change right. thats close to a 10% reduction in gdp. secondary taxes earned from the fed employees buying houses, paying property taxes, sales tax. that would be gone also. so speculating a total loss to gdp since less money means less business are needed to support federal workers with consumer goods. it would just pulling a number out of thin air now. drop californias gdp by 30%. so instead of 6th in the world they are now tied with equador. the united states would not trust its national defense to a foreign country even good old california freshly out of the union. so any company that wants a piece of the defense pie will be moving into united states proper or go bankrupt. thats another 56.7 billion published leaving the state. that does not include research and development projects being funded there. every building and acre that says national, or federal belongs to the united states not california. i could not in good conscience let them keep yosemite as a parting gift. or our military bases. i think just the removal of federal money spent in the democratic peoples republic of california leaving would plummet them to third world status in a few months. mexico will be thanking Trump for building the wall to keep californians the hell out of mexico and stealing their tequilia. does anybody really think these things thru??? does not really seem like a good idea just economically regardless of what their GDP is as a state within the union.

stop talking about it just do it. im tired of all the talking heads b.s. ready for civil war break out and the purge to kick in violence murder & Mayhem oh my
-
Please let Cali go, let them take Illinois and NYC. That should clear the country of all the freeloaders. Just be sure to build a trade barrier to those same (presumably seceding) states. No clean water, no power, no gas/oil, no anything..... let's see how long they last! I am pretty sure the remaining states will do pretty well without them.
Yep the federal government will miss the millions/billions in taxes from ca., but wait - aren't we a deficit status fed budget, with states like ca bleeding out more money then it puts in the U.S. government? -
California is a burdon to the rest of the country. It hands out the most welfare, it's the most in debt, they take in the most illegal immigrants, they spend their money on gender equal bathrooms instead of like water
let them split off from the US, it'll be hilarious. They'll turn into a desert and I bet the population would drop to 15 m within 2 years. of independence. -
Progressives don't care who they hurt, they just want everything to themselves and not caring about the American constitution.
