Now Ethiopias economy is booming. But once again babies are dying of malnutrition. What went wrong? In Ethiopias capital Addis Abbaba the signs of new wealth are everywhere. Glass sky-rise blocks dwarf traditional stone settlements, and with daybreak hundreds of builders arrive at the citys construction sites. But on the outskirts is a very different scene. A long queue is forming here. Word has spread that cheap, government-subsidised food will be sold here. We ask one man if he has trouble feeding himself. Yes, he says, because of the Food Shortage. Just very recently we hit the worst, local woman Valerie Browning tells us. But the Developed World, the Ethiopian government and even many aid agencies want Ethiopia to be a success story. That means the real story often goes untold. At the breadline government security arrives and forces us to leave. This happens every day to news crews in Ethiopia. And in Ethiopia millions are getting poorer every year. So much racial hatred in the comments... the reason the people have so many children is for fear they wont have any posterity left. They fear their bloodline won't survive. Also, families are larger so they can each other. It's not like in wealthy countries where they choose to have children because the source of income is sufficient enough where a large family unit is not needed. They are not unintelligent people. I mean why insult people you've never met and have no affect on your life? What did they do to you and what do you get out of it? When Ethiopians go abroad and become educated they outperform white students in the US and in Europe. Here in the States Ethiopians are some of the best educated and most brilliant people. Meanwhile you have white supremacists in prison who didn't even finish high school. Should I then assume that all white people are stupid and racist? Speaking of which, all of the bullying ass white supremacists spreading hate in this comment section are just as miserable as any poor person, if not more.

Another hit piece against Ethiopia from the African hating Journeyman Pictures. The obsession with Ethiopia's failure is real. This like the third or fourth "expose" on Ethiopia. Its a country of 90+ million that has dealt with poverty for generations. You can't expect poverty to eradicated overnight. You all in your usual stick up the butt hole British arrogance want nothing more to discourage black Africans. And yet you offer no alternatives. You would rather they remain a source of poverty porn for your intellectual elites and so called journalists. Development will take time. To suggest that there is no hope you're not an agent of change. And exploiting rumors of forced land grabs and ethnic division is not helping.

Because the more free food we ship in the faster these people REPRODUCE, it's a scientific fact- increase the food supply and the population's birth rate increases dramatically, these people who SHOULD have ONE child per couple pop out a dozen of them when they can't even feed ONE! why? because they know WE will ship container ships full of FREE food and money!
Time to CUT the apron strings and let Africa stand on it's own feed or fade away. -

It seems unfair that the countries that are having to feed and educate these people actively and willingly use birth control, but the ones asking for food freely shoot out babies that they know they can't feed. Do they have no shame? I mean I would not get pregnant knowing my baby will starve unless I go and ask strangers to feed my family not just one meal but all our meals potentially for the rest of our lives and then all the generations to follow. I could not do that.
I think the aid agencies should require all adults asking for aid to have a hysterectomy for women and a vasectomy for men. If a country, family or community has for generations the history of having children they can't feed and they do nothing to solve the problem then those feeding them have to solve the problem for them.
China faced massive starvation at one point and the people solved their own problem with the one child policy. Now they eat very well and are the 2nd largest economy in the world.
The last man who spoke is right that Ethiopia can be a thriving nation but it has to get up and do something for itself. Sitting around having babies while sticking out their hands for more food will not solve their problems. -

They need to use contraceptives or the women need to keep track of their cycles so they'll know not to have sex the week before their cycle is to start, no sex for those 2weeks because if they're not using contraceptives due to religious reasons then I think it's an even bigger sin to continue birthing babies they can't feed. How can anyone look at a child's thin skinned, narrow face & skinny frame, crying because they're hungry & then get pregnant over & over, it's plain careless & dumb.

In my travels around the world Ive saw same thing many times. The large charities that receive all the money very rarely get the money directly to the people its meant for. Would be nice if someone on the ground such as Valerie could communicate ways to send money or adopt a family direct. You send a world aide type charity 100 bucks and the family is lucky to get 1 dollar from it. Would be great to know how to give direct.
