HEADLINE: G-8 leaders focus on need for stimulus --------------------------------------- CAPTION: World leaders have agreed that the global economy is too shaky to begin rolling back massive fiscal stimulus plans right now, but said they would begin to work out strategies to unwind the program once "recovery is assured." ((L'Aquila footage showing damaged building)) THIS year's G8 is taking place in one. ((Berlusconi leading Obama through rubble)) For the annual summit of the world's top economies, Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi's hosting his counterparts amid the rubble of Italy's deadly April earthquake. OBAMA SOT: This is bad... President Barack Obama got a tour of the devastation, seeing some of the thousands of homes and businesses wrecked. ((Standup bridge)) Indeed, aftershocks here in central Italy's scenic Abruzzo region have continued in the past week. As a result, this may well be the first G8 summit whose extensive security plans INCLUDE an emergency evacuation of world leaders should ANOTHER quake strike. ((To summit leaders maybe from class photo)) Meantime, leaders huddling at a Spartan police barracks looked over this year's summit gift -- an art book with a REAL MARBLE cover -- and pondered the heavy lifting ahead on the reeling world economy. ((B-roll money?)) In a summit statement, they agreed it's too soon to heed German calls to pull back on fiscal stimulus.
