The year 2016 is one of the worst years in recent history. Here we present to you some of the worst and saddest news stories that have happened this year. Subscribe for new videos: http://goo.gl/SaufF4 9: Growing Racial Tensions in the US In 2015, a report of a federal investigation on the Ferguson Police Department was released saying that the city's police and municipal court had established clear racial disparities that adversely affected African Americans. Inappropriate slurs and unwarranted aggression were documented in e-mails and interviews with victims. The report was made following the city's wave of protests in response to the fatal shooting of black 18 year old Micheal Brown by a white police officer. Enter 2016, and racial tensions across the country have not seemed to calm down. On 5 July, a black man named Alton Sterling was shot several times while being held on the ground by police officers in Louisiana. The very next day in Minnesota, another black man named Philando Castile was fatally shot after his car was pulled over by a police officer. Both incidents were caught on camera and made viral by social media. The following day on July 7, a peaceful Black Lives Matter protest was organized in Dallas as a response to the two killings. In the midst of the protests, shots rang out. A man named Micah Xavier Johnson had ambushed and fired upon a group of police officers, killing 5 of them and injuring 9 others. When caught, Johnson admitted to wanting to kill white police officers in retaliation to the police shootings of black men. 8: Record High Temperatures Climate change and global warming is really nothing to joke about. According to reports from NASA and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, 2016 has been the hottest year worldwide since earliest modern records dating back to 1880. Throughout the year, we've faced an endless streak of record breaking temperatures. The first six months of 2016 was the warmest half year on record, each month measuring 1.3 degrees Celsius warmer than average. This was followed by a record breaking summer where the heat was 1.6 degrees above the summer average. Although a strong El Nino this past year did contribute to these rising temperatures, scientists believe the continued warming trend is mostly due to the greenhouse effect we humans keep causing from the continuous burning of fossil 7: The Zika Outbreak Before this, Zika was actually considered a mild viral infection causing mere fevers, usually in isolated cases and rarely becomes widespread. But in 2015, an outbreak began in Brazil, and spread its way across borders. In early 2016, WHO declared the Zika outbreak an international health emergency as it had become a global pandemic spreading across the Americas, the Pacific, and Southeast Asia. Growing evidence revealed that the infection caused severe birth defects as well as neurological problems. Pregnant women who caught it could transmit the virus to their unborn children, resulting in microcephaly and other terrible and fatal brain defects. It is found that mosquitoes are primarily 6: Brexit From the 90s, there had been calls by Conservatives and from the UKIP party in Britain to have their country withdraw from the European Union. These voices were previously never taken seriously, as most British citizens saw the huge benefits of being part of the great political and economic union that enabled them to enjoy free movement of goods, services, and people across European borders with almost no restrictions. But under pressure from far right parties, Prime Minister David Cameron 3: Failed Coup Attempt in Turkey Turkey is known to have experienced multiple military coups since the last six decades, having democratically elected governments topple over and over again by the army. But no coup attempts have been seen since Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his AKP party won the elections over 14 years ago.. until this day. Erdogan has slowly and continuously consolidated his rule over the Turkey since early this century. Despite multiple alleged human rights violations and harsh crackdowns on freedom of press and social media by his government, Turkey has somewhat flourished in terms of its economy and political stability. In July 2016, a faction of the Turkish Armed Forces attempted a military coup, and tried to seize Worst,saddest,news,stories,2016,racism,hot,temperatures,infection,zika,disease,brexit,voting,elections,harambe,celebrities,attack,worst/saddest news stories of 2016,year 2016,growing racial tensions in US,new sstories, news of 2016,racial tensions, black lives matter, global warming, record breaking, rising temperatures, zika outbreak, happy new year, stories 2016,famine in northern Nigeria, failed coup attempt in turkey, military coup
