Economy | Information | History | Online | Facts | World | Global | Money
Sponsored by the Schwartz Center for Economic Policy Analysis (http://www.economicpolicyresearch.org) at The New School for Social Research (http://www.newschool.edu/nssr), Yanis Varoufakis will deliver SCEPA's annual Robert Heilbroner Memorial Lecture, "The Future of Capitalism." We all know Varoufakis as the former Greek Finance Minister and media sensation who stood up to Europe in the fight against austerity. His lecture will discuss themes from his new book, "And The Weak Suffer What They Must?," including the origins of a crisis that has affected not only Greece, but all of Europe. The lecture will be followed by a panel discussion featuring New School Professor of Economics Mark Setterfield and economics student Ebba Boye. Department of Economics | http://www.newschool.edu/nssr/economics Varoufakis’ career has spanned academia, public service, and the private sector. After three decades in academia, he was elected to the Hellenic Parliament in 2015 as a member of the Syriza Party and became Minister of Finance in Alexis Tsipras’ government. He currently serves as professor of economics at the University of Athens and as a consultant for the Valve Corporation. The Robert Heilbroner Memorial Lecture on the Future of Capitalism: The Heilbroner lecture honors the work of Robert Heilbroner, who was both a student and a professor in the economics department of The New School for Social Research. This event is dedicated to understanding questions of economic justice and how the profit-seeking activities of private firms might also serve broader social goals. To use Heilbroner’s words, “capitalism’s uniqueness in history lies in its continuously self-generated change, but it is this very dynamism that is the system’s chief enemy.” THE NEW SCHOOL | http://www.newschool.edu Location: John L. A TRUE DEMOCRACY REQUIRES PARLEMENTARY CONTROLL OVER THE MONEY CREATION PROCESS.
If not so, like now, Amschel Bauer Rothschild get's his money power and corrupts the body politic (confirmed even by M. Friedman: capitalism and freedom).
All war's are bankers wars (Rivero).
And Bill Still's monetary solution: No national debt! -
Reaganomics or trickle-down economics never worked, we knew that in the past. Why did the thieves in both the EU and the US Follow Reaganomics? To steel the wealth of the middle class and to break-up the Unions for cheaper labor for Corporate sector as the Chinese labor force is demanding higher wages..
-
So Europe is still being led by German dictators ...
-
I have never seen a speaker combine history, economics, sociology, and anecdotes in such a masterful and insightful manner.

Varoufakis destroyed Greece. He made a mess, he was kicked out of the political party that he ran with, formed his own party and lost again and now he's making profit by telling his version of the story. He presents himself as a hero who just couldn't be part of what he calls 'this hypocrisy'.
He is lying don't listen to him. He is making a fortune from these talks. If you have a Greek friend ask them what he has done -
11:05 - Over 11 minutes of blowhards needing to say their piece before getting to the reason people came.

11:10 for Yanis

I got so sick of the giant corporations I decided to grow my own food and generate my own electricity at home. One of the first things I tried to plant were potatoes. They didn't grow because they were coated in medicine that prevents it from forming buds that turn into plants. This was done by the giant corporations to stop people from growing their own food and buy from them instead. It is cheaper to produce and healthier to eat without the medicine and leave it organic. Fuck capitalism.

Wonder how Trump would get on in a discussion of the finer points of economic theory with Varoufakis...

Free-market capitalism based on democracy is in its death throes, close to reaching its natural end, while pseudo-market capitalism based on plutocracy advances inexorably, as the standard bearer of the future. Future capitalism will be based on balance sheet blinkered financialized pseudo-markets held up by the pillars of monopolization, globalization, politicization, and corruption, as explained in 'UNENDING RECOVERY' (www.unendingrecovery.com).

The problem is world wide now when finance has been hijacked by private sector over time of capitalism development to its stage of today. If you can't pay your house debit you have to give it to the Authority that provided you with the loan ( The next kings and Queens will be BANKERS ) which is given to you on your own deposit with fractional ratio of 9:1 . Basically if any loan needs %10 deposit, That loan legally can be created from noting which added to money circulation in a society which in turn contributes to create inflation That boosts the amount of loan needed for next development and this thing has been perceptual as long as it has been existed and always ends to economical crisis because it is never possible that income can catch up with it.

"I talk to finances all the time, I talk to journalists all the time. If you ask them what capitalism is... they're lost!"

Beautiful interesting that the history of the development Capitalism is the same history that the English left call the history of democracy. But.. throwing out parliamentary democracy and thus also capitalism ain't goin be good for the peasants. Yet on the other hand, we are Drowning in the effluent filth of democratic peasant consumerism: mass production. Unfair ? They buy cheap slave-labour-built dumpster-destined junk and eat Mcdonald's etc. However much you wish to blame those who Sold it to them and the media who colludes in it, the sods still have responsibility at their end, unless you believe, like Marx, that they can't think for themselves.

Why does this doggerel have to be 2 hours long ? - Because otherwise it wouldn't justify funding; and also because it has no answer, so has to massively elongate.

It is a physical relief to listen to Varoufakis.
