Professor Andy Furlong, Dean for Research in the College of Social Science and Professor of Social Inclusion and Education at the University of Glasgow Drawing on his new book, Young People and the Labour Market: Past, Present, Future, Andy will explore changes in young people's labour market experiences from the 1970s to the present day. Contemporary conditions – in which many young people experience precarious employment conditions and lack control of their work-life balance - have deep roots, accelerated in many countries by the Global Financial Crisis. Young people today face a range of pressures that were largely absent for their parents' and, despite huge investments in education, underemployment is common, life management is more complex, and labour market changes have implications for the establishment of relationships and independent living. How do young people across the global north survive or thrive in these conditions?
